NEWS: Electric Bat Is Here!

There was pinball, arcade games, three cakes, and two full bars. What more could anyone need? Sunday marked the soft opening of the Phoenix area’s latest arcade, the amazing Electric Bat, inside the Yucca Tap Room in Tempe. Check it out!

Proprietress Rachel Bess chose the venerable Yucca Tap Room, 29 W. Southern Ave., in Tempe, as home for her new arcade. Check out the door all the way on the right! That’s where the magic happens now.
We entered through the main doors to the bar (because you have to) but quickly found our way to where we belonged. Turns out, this bat signal is pretty effective too.
Rachel chose Sunday for the early opening of her bar, a perfect day since it also was her birthday. Crowds of people descended.
There’s a great lineup of some 20 games games at the Bat, including some classics and a cadre of very recent Sterns, including Aerosmith, ACDC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and KISS.
All the games are in great working order, surrounded by vintage monster and game posters and pictures. This place has a great theme!
Even the Big Boss got in a few games on Sunday, checking out this Stars before moving on to Aerosmith.
Check out this gorgeous Creature from the Black Lagoon! The powder coating is such a nice touch!
Of course, it wouldn’t be an arcade without some video games, and there’s a cool crew of these games across the room. Kris, Chris, and Wes were checking out Magic Sword!
Rachel, taking a minute to pose as the wind from the fan passes. Happy birthday, Rachel, your arcade rocks!
And if you don’t believe us, take it from these guys, Tracy and Mark. They know a few things about pinball.
The crowds just kept coming on Sunday as everyone wanted to check out the Bat and verify it was as cool as they’d heard.
Seriously, the details here are great. Not only did Rachel get tokens pressed especially for the Bat, the scorecards are stylized too.
And these little drink tables between games also are awesome.
So, seriously, there’s no reason not to be at the Bat right now. We mean it. This bar opens at 6 a.m. Get down there. Now. Good job, Rachel!
