Creature from the Black Lagoon

Scottsdale, Arizona

This is one of my favorite games and it has a reset problem.

Check the voltage at the CPU and it’s only at 4.85 volts when cold,  this is only going to go down as the game warms up.  Anything under 4.80 and the game will reset.

Using a trick we learned from the Pinball Ninja (yes he is real!!) we cut the ground trace to the voltage regulator and added a 22 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. This boosted the voltage from 4.85 to 5.2V.  Also swap out the 100 uf cap at C4 for a 470 uf cap.  This should take care of the low voltage.  The game didn’t reset anymore.  If in the future the game resets again we will swap out the large 15,000 uf cap.

Cleaned up the pf, fixed the lights on the ramp that were out, checked all switches and solenoids.

During gameplay you could not see the Hologram though the window. After cleaning the dust off the mirror and hologram and adjusting the aim of the lamp the hologram lit up again and the motor was moving it back and forth.  It was nice and green and in focus.  It can still use a nice halogen or LED to brighten it up some more.
