Stern Stars

Leslie tackled this project, a shop job on a 1978 Stern Stars. This is one of about 5,125 produced. The game is noted for being one of two Stern games that lets players switch off two score displays, making it a two-player game instead of four. The other variable-player Stern game is Stingray.

It obviously needed a little work.

 

We had a tough decision about whether to peel up the Mylar. Someone had put it down AFTER there was already wear on the playfield. So we decided to bring it up with our favorite propellant cleaner.

Here's another shot of it coming up. We were lucky that it came up pretty cleanly. We did discover an extra layer underneath, too!

After a bit more polishing, some paint touch up and a whole lot of light bulbs and rubbers, she's starting to look good again!

Then we just brushed a bit of clear over the heavy touchups, and viola!
